Lola Mouras launches her website this month and shares how she stays strong and healthy.
But it wasn’t easy getting here. A disease and a few surgeries set her back a little as she struggled to find a healthier diet plan. Today, Lola is motivated to help people reach their diet goals while spreading a body-positive message.
Better yet, she shares all her yummy plant-based recipes on lolashealthytips.com.
What is the first piece of get healthy advice you would give?
Seek foods that are nutritious and delicious. A lot of times people will choose a fad diet because it is popular. When you are thinking about your meal and you cannot wait to dive in, that is the meal plan or diet for you. It won’t feel like a diet, and then your body will respond and you will start losing weight and you’ll feel less stress- less stress will mean less cortisol and you know for men and women, stress leads you to hold extra fat in your lower belly.
Is this easy to do?
You have to choose to want a healthier diet and to be fully committed. Once you make the decision and start feeling better, you are more likely to continue on a healthier eating plan. Build on that the next day!
Do you also believe in exercise?
Working out makes me feel so strong and accomplished and as if I can do anything. I love walking my dogs with my husband twice a day as part of my exercise. I also incorporate a daily 15 minute routine of stretching and Pilates. When time permits, I take a yoga class.
What mind-set will help us succeed with our New Years goals?
Even though you are on a new diet/weight-loss journey, you have to realize that you have choices, so you need to love yourself and body along the way. This should be about self-love verses vanity; it’s about finding the joy in eating more nutritional foods and losing weight the healthy way.
Did you always know you wanted a Website geared at helping others?
As a young girl I wanted to be a Doctor, but life took me in a different direction. I was very healthy, running 6 miles a day in San Francisco- until I had the mercy filling removed from my teeth. Afterward, I developed severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and for the last 21 years, I have tried everything out there including cancer medicine. My plant-based diet is the only thing that has made a significant difference. I hope to help others prevent or control this crippling disease through a healthier diet.
Do you ever feel pressure to look young and stay healthy?
Absolutely. I feel the pressure to look a certain way every single day. And, I get it- I sell skincare, nutritional supplements and now a website geared at healthier foods. Having said that, I have learned to love myself along the way. Aging is just a number and it’s really about how healthy your body feels. If you feel healthy, you look your best.
Are you a nutritionist?
No, and there may be people that feel I don’t have the experience to be talking about nutrition because I don’t have a degree. It’s ok! I only want to help those that are seeking my help. Changing my diet to plant-based foods was challenging, because everything was either tofu or soy. Ugh! I had to find another way to eat that was satisfying and nutritional. With that, I study every new recipe- sometimes hours as in my Vegan Tamales, to develop a healthier way. My Rheumatoid Arthritis Doctor says that he wishes all his patients ate like I do.
What do you love most about eating a plant-based diet?
My energy- I have tons of energy! I can also eat more throughout the day and not gain weight. My cookies on my website are geared at replacing protein bars and are scrumptious! When I have baked cookies available in the house, I eat one or two a day!
What gives you the most confidence and satisfaction?
Being sure of myself and continually seeking better recipes with more nutritional benefits -that makes me feel wonderful from the inside out. Knowing I am helping friends and family with my website and making a difference in people’s lives-makes me very happy!
What are you eating when you are cheating?
Ha, ha…it would have to be movie popcorn! It’s my guilty pleasure!
What’s your biggest fear?
My motto has always been; Faith verses Fear! I put God first in everything I do and seek his guidance through prayer and meditation.
